After freelancing for more than thirty years, writing from Rhode Island, New Mexico, and Quebec, Gila Country Legend, Nancy Coggeshall’s first book, was published by the University of New Mexico Press in 2009. The book is in its third printing and has been favorably reviewed across the boards, with Tom McGuane calling it a “gem of study and observation.” It was also cited as a Notable Book of the Year 2009 on the Tucson-Pima County Library’s Southwest Booklovers’ List.
Her book reviews, feature articles, and profile pieces have appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers from Equus Magazine and Western Horseman to the Bloomsbury Review and the Albuquerque Journal. Two of her articles were anthologized in the Harrowsmith Reader, and she won the Writer’s Digest first prize for interviewing in 1978. She has lived in New Mexico for more than twenty years, presently residing in Catron County.
