So many of you have asked for more information regarding Brigid's Feast, the creativity event I'll be leading this Sunday, January 31st, 6 pm, at the Live Oaks Friends Meeting House in Houston, Texas, that I thought I would post the details widely here. I'm absolutely delighted to tell you more about "Womanhood on Fire," sponsored by www.brigidsplace.org
Brigid's Place has put me completely in charge of this year's event, which I've crafted as a lively, moving celebration of women's friendships and community, and the creative inspiration we all give to and share with one another. I will be reading/performing stunningly beautiful words by writers including Emily Dickinson, Mary Oliver, and Naomi Shahib Nye. I will be leading us through repetitive chants designed to relax and warm us; through simple breathing exercises designed to connect and celebrate body and soul; through moments of profound silence, in which we honor the women who have inspired us throughout our lives; and through the legends and stories that surround Brigid herself (symbol of fire, healing, and inspiration), and which still have the power to move and ignite us. It is going to be a comfortable, relaxed and yet stirring evening; my goal will be to leave you feeling alive and kindled, and ready to do great things with this burgeoning new year. This hour-long event will be followed with sumptuous wine, bread and cheese, courtesy of Brigid's Place and Lucia's Garden. And we will have a beautiful setting for all of this in the Live Oak Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, designed by artist and architect James Turrell. I cannot wait to gather in that gorgeous evening light. Tell your friends. Bring your mothers. Your sisters. Your daughters. Come, and kindle your fire.
All best and brightest-- MD
