Personal reflections about my poem Alphabet revellers
All too often we lack the stomach for action. Language requires a spine both physical and metaphysical. What are the right words to describe the tingling sensation experienced in the middle of the back and behind the neck ? Why can literature cause us to shiver ? Language relies on the body as much as the body relies on language. Words can be back-breaking or foot-stamping. They can cost arms and legs, be a pain in the neck or a weight on our shoulders.
