I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and currently live at the other coast of the continent, in Oakland, California. The journey from there to here took me halfway around the world, through Europe and India, where I lived in the Himalayas and studied meditation with a great though obscure teacher. I fell in love with reading as a child when my father, a schoolteacher, taught me to read at the age of 5, and wrote my first novel, a biography of Beethoven, when I was 10.(No, it didn't get published, but I still love him). I have since published two novels, "The Second Story Man" and "Skirts," and am working hard to find a publisher for my third, "People of the Air." Both my published novels have earned excellent reviews (from such as the NYTBR, the ABR, and onward), as well as grants and awards and sometimes, re-publication in anthologies such as "A Different Beat," writings of the women of the Beat Generation. I also write short ficton, flash fiction, and many, many book reviews, currently for the West Coast literary tabloid "Poetry Flash," a fine, prize-winning publication in its own right. I teach in the Writing Program at UC Berkeley Extension, chair the fiction committee of the Northern California Book Reviewers, have private students, am honored to be a member of WOM-BA, and plan never to retire. Ever.
Apart from writing and reading I love music of all kinds--World Music, classical music, and jazz. And yes, I am still in love with Beethoven but don't think we would have gotten along.
