THE JESUS BOLT author, Micheal Stinson, spent twelve rough and tumble years in Alaska including two summers living in the bush and prospecting for Uranium by helicopter for the U.S. Department of Energy at Los Alamos. He was lauded for creating an atmosphere of competition that kicked the project into high gear (see attached Los Alamos letter), and was so highly regarded that he was selected as the subject of a film demonstrating "sampling" in the Alaskan bush for Government Archival purposes. He also mined gold for two summers near the Arctic Circle.
Such jobs have provided Micheal an intimate relationship with the wilderness, the Tundra and Taiga of Alaska that few have ever been privileged to call their own.
While attending the University of Alaska in Fairbanks Micheal drove cab to put himself through school, along with the aid of the GI Bill and a Talent Grant. An artist majoring in Sculpture, he won every award available at the University.
In the 1980's he created a book utilizing only international symbols to tell a story, a portion of which he later animated in 2000, "Symbolman: Boy Meets Girl" which he entered in competition with 640 animators worldwide and won, taking home the top award in Hollywood for Best Animated Graphics Worldwide that year. It's the reason he's known as "Symbolman" online, and you can view his award winning animation at: http://www.symbolman.com
His animation has been used by many educators online to promote reading for the illiterate, to assist the deaf, and graces the same web pages as many illustrious and well known historical artists, while teaching communication and symbolism at universities.
Micheal has appeared in interviews on broadcast and cable television shows like FOX, MSNBC, and CNN, and on numerous radio shows for his commercial work in video.
He now lives on the island of Maui with his wife and three year old son, where he's in the process of writing two more books, GASSHOLES, and OFFICER FRIENDLY.
Hunter S. Thompson, Bukowski, Hemmingway, Kerouak, Vonnegut Jr., Asimov, Heinlein - just off the top of my head.
THE JESUS BOLT, a memoir (seeking Representation), next up, GASSHOLES, OFFICER FRIENDLY.
Writing, recording and performing music, Flash animation (once won an award in Hollywood for my work there), sculptor, won all awards in college along with a Talent grant that gave me free tuition for a year. Interested in everything, don't consider them hobbies, really, but just one more direction in a creative way of life. Life is a vocation. As Campbell said, "Follow your Bliss."
