where the writers are
The Writing Day

Done at last!  34,000 words, seventeen chapters, urban fantasy, full, complete, edited, revised, done and done, ready for submission.

I left the house at ten and walked down to The Beanery.  It's a sunny, cold wintry day.  Patches and traces of snow align along buildings, bushes and trees, but the sidewalks and streets are clear under a cloudless blue sky.  Snow besieges the mountains surrounding our valley.  Tree branches wave and shudder under brisk winds that enter the shop and freeze me whenever the doors open.

It's now two PM, January 1st, 2013.  My butt is asleep and I have just one swallow of coffee left.  It pleases me to say, hey, I already finished a story in 2013.  Tonight I'll submit it.  Then I'll be able to say, hey, I've already submitted something in 2013.

The new writing year is off to a good start.

I look around, happy with what I've done.  The coffee shop is busy and full but they're all in their own world.  They're oblivious to my achievement.  There's no one to share this with here.  Isn't that the writers' way?  We work in solitude, scribbling, typing, thinking, and plotting.

Gotta walk home, go tell the wife, go do something to celebrate this fabulous start to the new year.

Another story finished.  34,000 words.  It feels really...good.
