Anxieties swell high and crash down on my consciousness.
A storm of worries arises.
Decisions are needed.
I sniff the wind, eyeing the horizon, trying to glean a sense of what will happen.
Clouds race in and darken, smothering the sun.
The temperature falls and falls.
Rain falls and falls.
The wind bays like hunting beagles hot on a scent.
Hunkering down, I clench whatever handholds of sanity found, becoming drenched, gasping for breath through water streaming over my face.
I can't see as forces of wind, rain and waves render me termporarily blind.
Pressure grows. People are waiting. Decisions must be made. "I'll have the cheeseburger, medium well, with sharp white cheddar cheese on a multigrain bun with a green salad."
Nodding and thanking me as she writes, the server accepts the menu I hand her. Conversation around the table begins. Calm descends as the clouds scatter and the sun shines down on me anew....
