I had more heartbreaking news this morning. According to The Telegraph, I've been wearing shorts wrong when I'm in the city.
Don't wear short sleeve shirts with shorts, they say.
Don't wear sandals with shorts. Do wear long sleeves with your shorts.
Do wear espadrilles with your shorts.
About the only thing I was doing right by their guide is dressing like myself - but dressing like myself is completely contrary to their advice. I did agree with them that we shouldn't substitute shorts for a tuxedo and that we shouldn't wear black dress socks with your shorts.
I never saw any mention of wearing sweat socks with your shorts, as I often do. No mention was made of walking around in tennis or running shoes with my shorts, as I will do. Those are probably so patently inappropriate that they felt it unnecessary to mention them.
Now that I'm armed with this knowledge, I'll need to address my whole summer shorts in the city ensemble. Guess it's time to drive to DSW and find some espadrilles.
