Remembrance - Madeleine L’Engle

PW has an excerpt from "Listening for Madeleine" on their website.  This focused on Sandra Jordan's memories of working with L'Engle, George Nicholson and Neal Porter. Lots of fascinating namedropping from the NY publishing scene.  I like the tidbit, the house considered this 'an important relationship'.  I loved reading that sometimes Sandra Jordan, as L'Engle's editor, would receive pages and pages of backstory that Madeleine had written out because she needed to know but the reader didn't need, something that I do myself for hours on end.  I must understand to tell the story!  There were also false starts!  Ah, a writer as a human.  Love it.

Great read, not just for the memories of Madeleine L’Engle, but for insights into publishing and how the business evolved.  I'm quite jealous of the three but enjoyed reading of their memories of working with a wonderful talent.

She's one of my favorite authors ~

This remembrance revealed more of her. I enjoyed learning that she didn't like to shop, that she bought her clothes out of catalogs.  Such a talented person, one of those people who write wonderful stories so effortlessly that I thought, writing must be easy. That's what I want to do.

Thanks for reading and commenting.  Cheers
