Tedious work day. I had plans. I had dreams of things I would accomplish at work today. But my computer had other plans. I was given a red X by the computer security gods for not encrypting my hard drive. What? Four and a half hours later, after shutting down and rebooting, the hard drive was encrypted but...well, its was four and a half hours later and I'd closed all my work. Man that sucked.
Off to the book store! Picked up book number five of Song of Fire and Ice, having completed "A Feast of Crows" last night, then went on to the grocery store and picked up some grilling fixins. Portabella mushrooms, asparagus, a steak for me. We had the rest at home, including fresh corn on the cob, onions and crookneck from the garden, along with tomatoes, lettuce, and other salad ingredients.
Only 86 F out and clear blue, perfect for grilling on the shaded patio with a light breeze blowing and a glass of pinot noir in my hand. Local reporter Paul Fattig wrote that if we don't hit triple digits today, we'll set a record for the second longest time without going past 99.9 F, seven hundred two days. The record, seven hundred thirty-two days, was set in 1958. If we don't hit a triple digit temp by August 27th, we'll have a new record. The last time we saw triple digits was August 25th, 2010, when we saw 105 F.
I washed my wife's car and then waxed it before hitting the grill at 6:30. The Ginger Bear and Black Paws wanted my steak. I shared. They were delighted.
I didn't mind. It's Friday evening. My weekend has begun.
