The fall flowers are in full bloom. Most are red, white and blue. Stripes dominate. More creative types feature waves. Some stand on spindly metal legs, others have a stout center stake.
"Re-elect John Stromberg"
"Jeff Scroggins for County Commissioner"
"Vote for Regina Ayars for City Council"
Some yards are empty of the fall flowers. Others feature a handful. They're pretty signs, beautiful to see in a small town, imbuing the town's ambiance with civic duty duty, signs of process, progress and discourse.
It will be an interesting November, when the fall flowers bear their fruit. Then the signs will be harvested and disappear back into their cycle of life.
