My wife and I both read Peter Heller's The Dog Stars early this year and enjoyed it. Naturally I figured it would be a movie soon and turned to the Google to confirm that someone was working on that.
She thinks James Franco would be ideal. I thought that apocalyptic master, Viggo Mortensen, would be ideal but he's too old. I suggested Jake Gyllenhaal and also believe Edward Norton or Ethan Hawkes would do a great job.
We didn't address the other characters although as I think about it, Viggo could be the sixtyish rancher. My wife did propose "the guy that played Meryl Dixon on Walking Dead" to play Bangley, as the two characters seem cut from the same black iron piece. The actor's name is Michael Rooker. I think he would be excellent but so would the guy who plays his brother, Daryl, Norman Reedus.
Meanwhile, over at Ender's Game, Ender is being played by Asa Butterfield from Hugo and the aching The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, among other movies. I think he'll do a great job. The cast is interesting and includes Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin, and Ben Kingsley.
Looking forward to its release in November.
