It's been a wonderful week for flavorful brews.
Last Wednesday found me meeting with the Brains on Beer boys where we cheerfully discussed death and quaffed our beverages of choice. My choice was a dark porter infused with vanilla. The vanilla infusion made it seem like there were hints of chocolate, confusing our palates.
This was in mind last night. I met a friend for late night beers. He's off to Alaska for the summer. He's finishing his capstone this week. Once it's done, he's finished with college for a while and hopes to focus more on his poetry writing.
We met at Caldera Tap House where they announced it was last call and they were closing. It was 9 PM.
Only one patron was there. We ordered a short beer. They had a special dark porter called Mowgli. We each ordered one.
Wow. It was smooth. I tasted chocolate but educated by last week, I noted the vanilla. Something else was present that I couldn't place.
Finishing, I spoke to the bar keep to gain insight. Chocolate and vanilla are infused, and they use bourbon soaked wood chips to add some bourbon highlights.
That's what I was tasting. When he said that, it all came together.
Fabulous brew, smooth, rich, incredibly flavorful.
Mogli, by Caldera Brewing. An oak aged imperial stout.
Stop by and have one.
