I awake to sunshine and silence. Lady sleeps alongside my left hip. Quinn is a furball at my feet. On his back, front paws tucked against his chest, Scheckter the Ginger Bear is nestled between my and my wife. He opens his eyes, looks at me. A sleepy purr emerges.
It's 39 F outside, sunny with a clear blue sky, the sky of dream and poems.
Feed the cats. Clean up. Dress. Out the door with my computer.
Savannah is behind the counter at The Beanery. Mountain is playing "Mississippi Queen." Leslie is ahead of me in line, the only person. I didn't know her name until this day, learning it as we chat. Bob comes in. Savannah exchanges greetings with him, then I call out, greetings and he returns them. Leslie, in the middle, greets Bob. Bob replies, Hello to you...person I don't know.
Savannah introduces them, along with the newest barrista, Kendrell, working the register. My drink is delivered. Mountain becomes David Bowie singing "All The Young Dudes".
I'm back into my groove. I'm home.
