As a writer of non-fiction I’ve never liked the term, it’s so negative. It just says “You’re not writing fiction? You loser.” It reminds me of “non-veg,” the term my vegetarian Indian friends use for eaters of meat. “Non-veg” implies a moral and spiritual failure. Pity the non-veg non-fiction writer in Mumbai. I hope he is at least a non-smoker.
