When alien starships appear over Earth's major cities, humanity struggles to understand the visitors' intentions. But uncertainty becomes terror when a plague of violence ignites chaos in the streets. Brother turns against brother, wife against husband, child against parent, as the Red Wake plunges Earth into chaos. But as the survivors struggle to stay alive, the new masters of the Earth emerge to claim their prize; The Peerless Empire unleashes even greater chaos upon a battered humanity as the aliens' intentions become all too clear; they want the Earth and all its resources, including the human race. In a small town in the Midwest, a possible solution emerges from the rubble, but will the child of two worlds survive long enough to act?
Michael gives an overview of the book:
Rio De Janeiro: Tens of thousands take to the streets in an orgy of spontaneous, religious mayhem. Beneath the watchful eye of the towering Messiah atop Mount Corcovado, Rio consumes itself as the obsidian spheres are absorbed into the Earth.
Tokyo: A new kind of explosion rocks the city as violence flares to epidemic levels. A nation known for it’s ability to cooperate, working toward a shared goal as a unified force, now erupts in a chaos- wave of mindless destruction. Tokyo goes down in flames.
Moscow: Black marketeers attack the Kremlin, using a stolen nuclear warhead, a legacy from an insane Cold War, to hold the city hostage. Before the city is completely evacuated, the blast incinerates it. No one will ever know that in the moments before the blast, the gangsters have all been slaughtered, murdered by foot soldiers of an advance force that no human army has the power to resist. When the slaughter is over, the creatures follow the instructions of their Masters and detonate the warhead.
Moscow ceases to exist.
Prague: The capitol of the former Czech Republic is pummeled by a rain of black spheres, causing a localized energy phenomenon so intense that in moments, all human life in the city and surrounding hamlets is scoured from the face of the earth. What replaces the former inhabitants of the region is a settlement of beings not remotely human.
And in Selma Alabama, a week long wave of lynchings culminates in a race war that spills out of the city and into outlying areas. Black outrage, fueled by the energy of the Red Wake spills over, bubbling into the surrounding, predominantly White suburbs. White hostility, so long frustrated, restrained and forestalled, finds jubilant release in the long shadow of the Red Wake’s passing.
Superior numbers of whites create grim new forests of swinging black bodies. While impassioned descendants of African slaves attempt to abolish the sons of the traders in human flesh.
Immortal and savage, the secret seeds sown by the Founding Fathers finally bear the strangest of fruit. And when the black spheres begin to fall, like errant chickens coming home to roost, the real winners of the war reveal themselves to the shrieking human tribes.
But these new conquerors mark no distinctions in skin color. To them, the survivors are truly equal.
