Her skin was the color of a cadaver's sclera, her hair the color of ravens' wings, encrusted with filth. Dirty black spikes leaped out from her head like a shout of exaltation. Her eyes were the color of summer skies, piercing in a face nearly black with blood and dirt. Her jaw had been paralysed on one side by a stroke or birth defect. Her mouth hung open, her faced fixed in a silent shriek.

Yes, Marc agreed. She is beautiful.

I read a book about the black upper middle class in Westchester County. I thought it would make a good backdrop to a really dark story about class,race and sex.
