Yesterday was dark, dreary and stormy here on the Central Coast of California. Today, the sun burst through the clouds and it was a spectacular day. It was as if God looked down on the Earth and said, "Today is the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation Fundraiser and I will make it a glorious day." And then He did it!
Please allow me to describe the setting. First, I need to thank the Kass family for generously opening their estate for this event. For those of you who have never been to Montecito (yes, this is where Oprah has a home) I will tell you that it is located next to the Pacific Ocean on one side and beautiful mountains on the other. The ocean view from the estate was breathtaking and the home itself was like no other I have ever seen.
Dennis Miller provided lots of laughs, and donors provided lots of money to help families of children with cancer. One very, very touching moment happened when Kenny Loggins and Becca Solodon played a song that they have just created called "One Voice." Becca (a childhood cancer survivor) sings the song. What they are hoping will happen is that this song will be like a pebble dropping in a pond... that the ripples will spread and grow and that this will bring more awareness, more support, more funding, and what is most desperately wanted-- a cure for cancer.
