Once again, I feel the need to share something my mom has written. When you read this, you will know how my battle with cancer has affected her life. She has a vision. She has drive. She feels a huge responsibility to help the children who are still fighting and those who will have to fight. I am learning a lot about a mother's heart and how instinctive protective feelings need to be wrapped in faith and wisdom and love.
This is what my mom posted today on the Oprah Please do a Show on Childhood Cancer Facebook Page:
I have come to this page every day for a month now to read the stories about children with cancer. Each time I read them I cry. Why do I keep coming back? I cannot turn away from these amazing, incredibly brave children.
I don't understand how we, as a nation, are not making a cure for childhood cancers a top priority. These are our children. These are beautiful, precious little people who rely on us-- adults-- to care for them. Our nation has money to build huge "War Machines" and we have billions of dollars to send to other countries who need aid. The absolute truth is that we need to build an enormous "Childhood Cancer War Machine" that includes brilliant researchers, people with huge political infuence, people with huge social infuence, and doctors, nurses, social workers, and families of children with cancer that will come together for the common cause of a cure. I am grateful for this page where we can join together in one Voice... let's connect with one another. Send each other friend requests like crazy and when that screen pops up asking if you "know" someone, you can honestly answer, "Yes." I feel a deep spiritual connection with each person who has helped a child through cancer. I consider each one of you my friends and I will continue to do everything I can to help our children.
Oprah... we need your help.
I love you Mom...
