If today really is the end of the world, the great news for me is I'll go out in style: celebrating books! And if it comes at 6 p.m., then my last supper will have been a great one as well. I'm not quite sure why Da Vinci didn't show up to capture us, but we had the most delightful time at dinner last night.
The photo is of the Gaithersburg Book Festival gang who shared dinner together last night, from left to right: Jud Ashman (the great Gaithursburg Book Fest founder!), Paula McLain, Caroline Leavitt, Sarah Pekkanen, Katharine Weber, Eleanor Brown, me, and Barbara Mead of Reading Group Choices. (Only sorry the phone camera didn't flash.)
As an author, I think I enjoy book festivals and conferences as much as (or more!) than the non-author audience. It's such a lovely way to connect with other writers as well as with readers. And really, writers and readers are the best people in the world.
