I am adrift on a sea of brilliance. Everyone around me here in Palo Alto is a geek or wants to be a geek or is trying to get over being a geek. By geek I mean the people we are all jealous of, the founders of Google and Facebook and Apple, not the ones we teased in middle school, who all got the last laugh on us. Not only am I not a geek, but my son is, so my envy has to be sublimated to my pride in him and the things he and his pals are planning to do to rescue the rest of us from our profligacy. I was a lawyer for many years. I actually liked it, thought I was one of the masters of the universe--more like Pluto, it turned out, not even a planet, much less a universe. Now I am writing: novels (unpublished so far), short stories, essays, even a few children’s stories when Meg’s and my boys were young. Hoping I have something to say. Hoping to leave a trail.
