where the writers are
Trade Winds, Anyone?

If travel is broadening, this broad has been broadened.

For "getting away from it all," there's nothing like the South Pacific. No wonder so many artists and writers (Gaughin, Robert Louis Stevenson, James Michener, etc.) hung out there.

I just spent over a month in New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa and Hawaii, and loved every minute. The weather was great, even in Milford Sound, and we were able to connect with friends and relatives everywhere but Fiji (sunburn city!) and Hilo. It was my first trip to New Zealand, but I hope it won't be my last. Such good friends there that we wanted to bring them home with us, and Hilo is my favorite place, next to most of  New Zealand.

I did do some writing on the trip, but mostly I loafed. There's a lot to be said for that. I think it's a skill we Americans have nearly forgotten.

I recommend it.

I'm beginning to post photos on Facebook, but it will take a while. I'm too busy getting caught up! Here's one to tantalize.
