I've been trying not to clench my teeth. I find myself doing it again. My therapist called it "generalized anxiety," and gave me a little pill. It helps. Some.
At first, I was only worrying about getting my book published. But now I worry about the war in Afghanistan, the imminent collapse of Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons, Iran, which will have nuclear weapons soon (and nobody does anything but wring their hands about it), border wars between Mexico and southern California, kidnapping, the stock market, my so-called "retirement," that is rapidly dwindling, under an Administration that seems determined to repeat the mistakes of the past (or that is perhaps clueless—an even more frightening thought), my lack of concentration on the business of writing, the drought, global cooling (we have more polar ice than we thought!), and of course, my teeth.
I've stayed away from political pronouncements up till now, but just had to get that off my chest. I know mine is a distinct minority view among creative types, but there it is. Now I'm done.
