Early this week my twin and I were discussing how people come to us telling they cannot see their angels. We ask how much they pray and meditate. The answers vary from some to not at all. Very few people tell us they pray and meditate daily. Often we are faced with people who are defensive. They aren’t so sure God exists. They question the worth of prayer. Meditation is for people who can afford expensive classes or are already holy.
The first defense against what you want is your ability to refuse to do the groundwork. You don’t become a master craftsman until you have been an apprentice and journeyman.
Trades are like universities. It takes years of study and patience to learn the basics of any skill. Julia Child learned how to crack eggs before she made her first omelet. My barber had to go to school and work with other barbers before she could cut hair without supervision. Sitting in silent Quaker meetings and learning from Quaker friends the basics of meditation gave me some idea of how to quiet down.
Meditation does not come easily in a world of constant noise. The idea of turning off all of the electronic toys frightens most beginners. It is painful for most to spend maybe an hour a week in congregational prayer. We think that it is easier to follow a format of prayer and song in a crowd than to be in silence.
One of the most successful meditators I ever met was a man who swam every day for at least a half hour. Others I’ve known have to get out to walk every day. That time to gather themselves in brings their spirits to a calm center. Some people I know prefer to gather daily in a group to walk or sit together. Their communal attunement brings inner silence.
How can we see angels if we cannot be silent in some way?
The man who swims glows every day when he comes out of the water. Others who go off alone or join in group meditation have their own glow. It is silence. It is a moment of inner communion.
People tell us they do not believe in God. They cannot pray. Belief in God and prayer are nice together, but it isn’t necessary to believe in God to pray. Prayer requires no formula, no set of rites or rituals. Prayer requires our acknowledgement of the reality that we do not constitute the entirety of creation. Can you admit that you are not God? You are not everything that is? Have you the courage to give yourself the gift of being a human, finite and frail in the face of an enormity called creation?
Give it a shot.
Pray. Meditate. Let go of your self. It does not matter if you are not a doctor, lawyer or Indian chief. Your primary focus in life is that you are a human. Build from there.
Give yourself the gift of self. Let it take whatever it takes to see and hear your angels. What if it doesn’t happen in the first week you try? Good! Keep going. Don’t ever expect to contact your angel. Expect nothing. Let go of your sense of self. You are not entitled to seeing your angel again like you did when you were born. You took away this gift from yourself. Until you pray away your sense of preciousness, give up your self-centered rigidity that says you deserve everything you want, you will be frozen in your personal insecurity.
You can see your angel the day you decide you are tired of the emotional pain of trying to control the universe. The day you let go of being the center of creation you will open yourself to wonders beyond belief.
This week I was inundated by warrior ghosts of Plains Indians. I had no idea how many there were who had slipped past the angel guards into my backyard. In the middle of the night I heard their ghostly bird calls. They used the same bird calls when surrounding and attacking enemies. Because of the years of practice, the years of prayer and meditation, I was assisted by the angels and saints in putting them through the Tunnel of Light. Great numbers of them were unwilling to go, but when angels push souls through fight is futile.
My twin and I have been doing this all of our lives. We are still in wonder of the sheer simplicity of being allowed to see beyond ourselves.
Consider your possibilities today.
Will you be able to hear the next time your angel comes calling?
