I come from the old school. I'm 56 years old afterall. At the risk of sounding like my parents, when I was a kid people respected the office of the Presidency. Obama was elected in a landslide victory, the majority of Americans voting him into office and, like it or not, we are stuck with him for the next year and a half. I feel every President, Republican or Democrat, deserves the 'respect' and 'support' of the American people. You may disagree with his politics, wish he never got elected, hate his vision for health care, resent it when he takes a vacation, chew nails when he shoots a few baskets to unwind, but he does hold the highest office in the land. He didn't get there by accident. He worked hard for it and he won it, fair and square. For that reason alone he deserves respect.
It grinds my nerves when I hear people, who are being paid handsomely, make it their mission in life to bring him down. I think Fox news is the scourge of the earth. Watching them drives me away from the Republican party even though I think some republicans actually have pretty good ideas. Day after day this so-called 'fair and balanced' news station dogs Obama relentlessly. I have heard Sean Hannity call him 'spineless', 'cowardly', a 'disgrace', 'lazy' , an 'embarrassment', 'un-American', a 'socialist' and use many other adjectives to color the viewer's perception of this man who is simply doing his best to right an economy that was decimated by the Bush administration. His regular guests include Ann Coulter, Carl Rove, Dick Morris, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Laura Ingraham and a litany of other republicans who delight in the economy's unfortunate demise. Not one of them can offer a shred of support or accept a fraction of responsibility. In their eyes it's Obama's economy, Obama's wars, Obama's housing crisis, Obama's banking fiasco, Obama's unemployment disaster and Obama's deficit problem. They act like he has single handidly has 'ruined' this country and is intent on turning us into a nation of 'socialists'. Did they think Obama could turn this economy around on a dime? The man has accomplished some pretty tremendous things...like killing Osama bin Laden...but they even tried to credit the Bush Administration and their water-boarding interrogation techniques for that. Fox news cannot go five minutes without saying something derogatory about this administration. Is that 'fair and balanced'? The Dixies Chicks were tarred and feathered when Natalie Maines made one off handed comment about George Bush.
What kind of image does that send to the rest of the world? With 'friends' like Fox news who needs enemies? To constantly portray our president as 'weak' and 'inexperienced' is undermining our image around the world and stalling our economic recovery. So I wanted to find out who is behind Fox news and what is their political agenda. It strikes me as decidedly 'un-American'....so I did a little research. The parent company is of course owned by Rupert Murdoch. They are the ones hacking everybody's phone and putting out rag magazines like 'News of the World'. Who is the largest shareholder? Well next to the Murdochs the largest shareholder in Fox news is Prince Alwaleed bin Talal...from Saudi Arabia. That's interesting. In 2002 Talal donated 27 million dollars to the Palestinians who are "victimized by Israeli terror and violence". Concerning the attacks on 9/11 he thought we should "address some of the issues that led to such a criminal act". Okay. I've heard enough.
Fox commentators are among the nastiest 'journalists' in news. I love their 'polls' and the way they feed the questions to their guests. The other night Laura Ingraham was sitting in for Bill O'Reilly and she invited Charles Rangel to be her guest. I'm no fan of Charles Rangel but she might as well have taped a picture of him on the chair because she fired questions at him so fast it made his head spin. She wouldn't let him get a word in edgewise. He was literally her punching bag for ten minutes after which she smiled and thanked him for coming on. Fair and Balanced? The regular contributors on Fox news are anything but fair and balanced. Can't they come up with a new slogan? I love to watch because it's like watching a train wreck. It's like watching Diane Dimond hound Michael Jackson or Gloria Allred defend Tiger Wood's mistresses. It's like watching Greta Van Susteren try to blend in with the Palins...or the 'Real Housewives' at the dinner table. It's ludicrous and would be funny except for the damage it's doing to our country.
Political journalism is out of hand and it's not just Fox news. Ed Shultz is one of the biggest bags of wind on television. He'll be the next one to drop dead of a heart attack. He looks bloated and he is definately full of hot air. He called Laura Ingraham a 'slut' and tried to make it look like Rick Perry was racist...now that's real classy. Get this guy off the television...he has a face for radio and he is doing no favors to the democrats. Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Dick Morris, Carl Rove, Sarah Palin, Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin, Keith Oberman and the rest of these 'political critics' are all getting rich. No wonder they are so opposed to letting the Bush tax cuts expire. They are polarizing the country and offering no real solutions. They are oblivious to the havoc they wreak and care about nothing more than their own bottom line. I for one don't appreciate it.
