9/11 Replays

I for one don't plan on re-living the tragedy of 9/11 on the 10 year anniversary. I've got better things to do...like figure out how I'm going to survive the next recession.

A few days ago everyone was up in arms because someone bottled a wine and called it 9/11. I saw more than one news commentator question whether they were 'profiting' from a national disaster. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Several from the media are planning 9/11 'tributes' on the 10th anniversary and they are sure to profit from huge ratings as they replay every painful moment so we can all re-experience the event. No thanks. Mike Huckaby even produced a cartoon to brainwash children. Nothing like training them to hate from an early age. Don't kids deserve to retain their innocence? Do we really want to trouble their little heads with anything but 'Dora the Explorer' or 'Dr. Suess'? There's even an exhibit where you can go 'touch' rubble from the buildings.

To sensationalize this tragedy is a big mistake. It would be different if all the profits were going to the families of the victims, I guess, but I doubt that's the case. As we are mourning our loss, on the other side of the world people will be watching with glee. They will be re-living the event as well, only instead of mourning the victims they will be cheering the high-jackers. When the first plane hits the tower, instead of watching in horror they will be tickled pink.  Do we really want to give them the satisfaction?

Already our reaction has magnified their success. Two ten year wars, our economy in shambles, thousands of our soldiers dead...and for what? What have we accomplished? Are we safer now than we were on 9/11? As we teach our children to hate all Muslims, as we encourage our citizens to 'never forget', as we draw our line in the sand are we doing ourselves any favors? or are we simply beating our chest like a gorilla in a show of 'strength' trying to 'frighten' our enemies into retreat.

I'm sure the world knows we've been severely weakened. We are no longer the rich and powerful country we were before the attacks of 9/11. Donald Trump sure is singing it from the tree tops. Fox News is doing their best to make it a reality. . .the tea party is very vocal about it. The so-called Christian right are gearing up for war with the Muslims. Even our politicians in Washington are severely polarized and spewing their hate for one another. We are  fighting amongst ourselves. It reminds me of the 'Tower of Babel'. It's like we are all speaking in different toungues and there is mass confusion. No clear path of how to proceed. From what I can see we are more vulnerable now than ever before. Are we just going to go down in flames?

What's wrong with a 'quiet' remembrance? Perhaps dim the lights in every city across America  for 10 minutes. How about a few moments of silence where we all 'freeze' ...stop our cars...stand in honor...complete silence and no movement across the country for say five minutes...like a giant flash mob?  How about we vow to never again re-play it on television. What's the point? Why let the terrorist bask in their glory? Why make the families re-live it every year? Isn't it time to move on? Why let the media profit... throw gas on the fire...inflame emotions? If someone wants to re-live the event let them buy the DVD.

We need to fight terrorism with our brains...not our brawn. We need to cripple 'them' where it counts...in their pocketbook. We need to smarten up and get control of our borders and quit trying to 'police' the world or track down every terrorist. We don't have the resources. We need to quit giving them a 'platform' to recruit...quit letting them know they are getting under our skin...quit being so 'boisterous' . We need to quit sacrificing our soldiers and wasting our most precious resources. We need to repair 'our' infrastructure...not theirs.

We need to fight terrorism 'behind the scenes'. Instead of marching in broad daylight with boots on the ground we should be sneaking in under cover of night. We need to stop being so 'vocal' about it...quit showing our hand. Above all we need to 'reign in' the media and stop them from spilling our national secrets. We need to realize that they are the ones fueling this fire. They are the ones inflaming emotions and causing tension. They are the ones causing us to fight amongst ourselves and they are the ones getting rich doing it.  They are shaping our 'image' to the rest of the world and it's about time we hold them accountable.

I'll be spending the tenth anniversary of 9/11 with my family. We will of course 'remember'. I don't need a 3 hour CNN special to remind me. I don't need to re-live it moment by moment. We'll say a prayer for world peace...we'll pray for the victims....and we'll pray for America, but we won't be watching the television.
