Come to hear Mark talk about his book, meet some of the people he interviewed for it, and stay for the dance featuring the Creole Belles (led by Delilah Lee Lewis, with special guest Andrew Carriere), followed by Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic. Book talk at 7:30 in the back studio, dance lesson at 8:00, and music at 9:00.
In the Bay Area, Ashkenaz was one of the first public venues outside of Creoles' church parish halls where zydeco music was featured with any regularity. Owner David Nadel had the foresight to program the music with Queen Ida early in her career, Clifton Chenier a couple of times while he was still alive, and then Danny Poullard in his prime with the California Cajun Orchestra. Since then, Ashkenaz has continued to feature the music several times a month.
