I'll be doing a poetry reading and workshop this Saturday at our local independent bookstore, Carpe Librum. I'm billing this as a wine-tasting also, to bring in a few people who might not otherwise dare to come out and play.
I know lots of my poems by heart, but need to refresh and learn a few more by Saturday--no one wants to hear a writer drone on--not even for free!
Tired from teaching. It's hard to get motivated to practice, but must, must. A show is a show--and I am a performer as well as a poet.
Will reward self with a really good bottle of wine when it's all over!
As to the work-shoppy part of this--I will lean on group poems, to deflect ego, on common object and praise poems, and on poems that use two columns (the right hand column will include sound effects and early sounds from our first memories.)
This is being sponsored by the Poetry Quintessence Society. (How do I tell them they need a new name?)
Event is September 25, 2 p.m., at Carpe Librum Booksellers in Bearden. We'll rename the society! The Poetry and Jug Society? No, that sounds like porn! Poetry Plus? No, that sounds like large women--well, that's true! Help--
