Okay. Wow. Well, so Mom was sent home from the hospital on Thursday, but was right back in on Friday -- this time with something different and seemingly a lot more serious. But she once again came home late yesterday afternoon. I hope she will stay put for a while!!!
A Rum Diary aside... I saw this morning that The Hollywood Reporter (or THR if you don't have enough time to actually say: The Hollywood Reporter), is claiming that something like 2% of the people who went to see The Rum Diary over the weekend were under 18 (and this age group seemed to like the movie much better). However, when my cousin and I were in the theater Friday night, there were only FOUR people in the 50 and up age range (she & I included), and everyone else in the theater seemed to be around 19 or 20 years old. So perhaps that "2%" were entirely at our theater... (and just FYI, they did seem to really like it a lot. Perhaps they don't yet carry the often depressing cultural baggage that old tanks like me do...) ("Me" do???) Anyway.
Apparently, The Rum Diary earned "a dismal $5 million..." over the weekend. Jesus, I'd love to earn "a dismal $5 million" for anything whatsoever. (Plus, I know I will see the movie again, to see if my attitude about it might improve, so it is safe to say the movie will earn at least $5,000,008.00)
Okay, I know I keep saying this, but stay tuned to this blog for all the info on the upcoming Black Marks Literary Awards that I will be sponsoring with M. Christian. Now that I am back from my whirlwind tour of Europe, that is front and center on my plate, gang. This award will be for Best Unpublished Science Fiction Novel, so get those keyboards clacking! Go to infinity and beyond!!
I am also, officially, the Assistant Editor for North America for www.SomethingDark.eu, and I am actively scouting for unique, dark, cutting edge voices to introduce in upcoming issues of that amazing magazine. So please keep me in mind if you are unique, dark, and cutting edge. (And you are going to have to jump through some serious hoops to prove that, so forewarned is forearmed, gang!)
Gosh, you know, even though there is a lot of work on my plate right now, it feels really cozy to be back at home. Last night, after leaving Mom's house, I came home with a 4-pack of English pub-style ALE (!!!!!) [Yes, Daryl! -- Ed.] (I stopped at the grocery store to drop off Mom's prescription, only to find the pharmacy closed, so me thinks, "Hey, why not buy some ale instead? Now that I am an English Ale convert..." That particular grocery store where Mom's pharmacy is located actually sells a couple different kinds of English ale, unlike where I usually shop, which sells none.)
Anyway, so I come home with ale and I pop an artisan veggie pizza into the oven, go down to the family room and discover the best news ever: Masterpiece Mystery, on PBS, is showing a special Halloween episode of Poirot! Yippee-ki-yi-yay!! I so fucking love Poirot!
So I snuggled down there in my family room, with my ale, my pizza, a couple of happy cats (and a less happy cat at the top of the stairs, but if she could learn to be nicer to her brother & sister then maybe they wouldn't hiss and spit at her the minute she sets one of her comely toes on the stairs heading down to the family room), my comfy pillow and my fall quilt that has autumn leaf appliques all over it (yes, gang! I am that corny!!!) and I watched Poirot and I couldn't have been happier.
And on that happy note, Monday is underway around here. I hope it's a good one for you, wherever you are and whatever you find yourself doing. I'm outta here! So, see ya, gang. Thanks for visiting.
