My Picnic Mentor

I know there are still 2 days left of June, but I've already changed all my calendars over to July!!

No, not just b/c my birthday is coming (in 24 days!! -- I tend to like anything from Crate & Barrel, gang, and also the really high-end stuff from Pottery Barn, just FYI...) (Also love stuff from Sur La Table (!!) and certain tableware from Williams-Sonoma -- expensive imported dishes with honeybee motifs, or chicken & rooster motifs.) (Don't buy me clothes b/c I have very peculiar taste in clothes so chances are, you won't nail it.) (And please don't make a charitable donation anywhere and call it my "birthday gift." I  prefer that you make your charitable donations on your own time and then I'll make charitable donations on my own time, but when it comes to my birthday, please just buy me a really nice gift.) (And please wrap it -- nicely!-- and include a really pricey card -- don't send any sort of 'homemade" card unless you are really, really talented and I can maybe make a tidy sum auctioning the card as "original signed art" by you on eBay.)

I'm just kidding, of course. You know what I really like for my birthday? Good conversation, a good meal with a nice French red, low humidity, a clear sky... the "low humidity" part is usually the sticky wicket since my birthday falls in late July... I remember when I was a really little girl and if my grandparents came to Cleveland for my birthday, it meant we would go someplace really nice for dinner where there would be air conditioning!! If you're considerably younger than I am (sadly, an easy feat to accomplish), you probably can't imagine a world where most places in the USA weren't air conditioned , but "un-air conditioning" was a large part of my childhood to the point where I can actually remember when places were air conditioned. Isn't that kind of weird to think about??? That I have enough space in my brain to store memories as trivial as that???

But the other reason I'm eager for July to get here is b/c Bill Brent arrives on July 13th. I'm really looking forward to that, as loyal readers of this lofty blog know so well by now. Once he gets here, I think I'll put the brakes on summer and try to get it to slow down and drag out as long as possible. The reality is that he & I will have a ton of work to do, but I'm also thinking that we're going to have a lot of fun stuff to do, too, so I  will need the summer to slow down considerably so that I can enjoy all that.

Well, guess what??

My world does not actually revolve around my birthday, however... it just so happens that my cousin and I are going to spend the afternoon together -- shopping for that picnic table I am so eager to get this year!! It is an early birthday present from her to me and I am just on Cloud 9 about it, gang!! And it is just the most beautiful day out there today. It's kind of unbelievable. I'm off to take my walk right now, in fact -- I'm going to the bank, the library, and the post office!! And all these places are close enough for me to walk to, so it's almost like living in Manhattan! (Except that in every other way imaginable, it's absolutely nothing like living in Manhattan!)

Okay, have a great Wednesday, gang. I will regale you with photos of the picnic table ASAP!! Thanks for visiting! See ya.
