Mariko Tamaki is a writer and performer whose work appears in print, on stage, and on the radio. Mariko is the author of the novella, Cover Me, creative non-fiction collections True Lies and Fake ID, she is also the co-creator of comics Emiko Superstar (with Steve Rolston) and Skim (with Jillian Tamaki). Mariko’s most recent novel is the Young Adult work, (you) set me on fire, published by Razorbill/Penguin. Largely, Mariko’s work examines her fascination with the complexities of the social world and the struggles of those people who cannot seem to easily fit into it. Which is a fancy way of saying she writes about weirdos and freaks, because she’s a big fan of weirdos and freaks. Mariko has also performed stories (about blood, unicorns, and lying to swimming instructors) on CBC’s DNTO and as a fledgling stand up comedian/storyteller on stage. Mariko’s debut as a screenwriter/actor, 16 Covens: Happy Birthday Kevin, will be released in 2013.
