I found a box of old photos in my mother’s apartment after her death, which reminded me of the stories my parents had told me about their adventurous lives as survivors of the Holocaust and about their lost loved ones. This led to my first book: "A CENTURY OF LOVE: 1905-2004", a history told through the lives of ordinary people, in Hungary before WW I, under Nazism and Communism, and during our escape to the USA after the 1956 Revolution. I then added the stories about adjusting to life in New York, and then to Italy, where I first moved for work and then found love.
It became an album with stories, instead of an illustrated tale: 34 photos, 13 pages of text and a family tree. After many searches in Internet of Holocaust and victims websites, I started to write the central episode, chapter 4, then continued forwards and backwards, for 10 chapters about 10 kinds of love. The choice of publication on the Internet, with new tools available free of charge, came from my long career in the computer field, but it was the photographs themselves that led me on, in the beginning to make my wiki blog www.centuryoflove.blogspot and later to publish the book in print form on www.blurb.com
A second book followed, about my own life in my three “homelands”: “A Life in Three Parts: Hungary, America, Italy” and both were made available on blurb in Italian too, since I’ve lived here now for 40 years. As an unexpected result of that box of photographs, I found a very satisfying new interest after retirement!
