I lived on three other continents before landing in Europe, but I was born in idyllic Barbados. Our home teemed with books — Dante’s Divine Comedy, Caribbean Tales, and more.  Now, when others boast of reading only current bestsellers, my chin drops and my eyes stray. It’s shame. The truth is, I’m not biased. I’ve read the bible from cover to cover then read the history of the bible. I’ve consumed Danielle Steele then Dostoevsky and Archie comics, and would beautify Toni Morrison’s prose if I could. I made it through medical school and post grad by stealing hours with Maya’s poetry, Wodehouse’s humor, and Ludlum’s raw intrigue.

I am awed by fantastic plots in compelling, unique voices, and I don’t compare across genres—if something’s a great read, it’s a great read. For me, a great read is both gripping action and an engaging language-carpet ride to that other reality, and I try to bring that to my writing. A daunting goal.

I want to jion Red Room because that's where the writers are.
