Embrace, a poem
Toni Morrison says, “If there is a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” So I have. HIGHWAY TO OBLIVION.”
About Mara
A naïve Maine native, I arrived at NYU eager to become a lawyer (until l met one!) so switched to Art History (all those beautiful slides!), studied anatomy and painting at the Art Students League, wrote art criticism for “The Villager” and handled foreign...

Tiny film
I love it and it touched me as deeply as when you first shared it. It is a brilliant all-encompassing piece.
I thought of you, Sharon, as
I thought of you, Sharon, as I made it, and wondered if you would be seeing Ugandan skies very soon. You are extraordinary to hold up under such stressful circumstances. Let me know when you find out.
I could never ask for more than "all-encompassing." In reference to your own work, it fills in my dash... Thanks for that and for being yourself.
Dashing through life
Dearest Mara, Thalnk you for your comments. You inspired me entire dayt.
I do believe I will. be seeing different skies soon - but I don't know yet if they will be Ugandan - or the skies from Nevada. Husband now has two possibilities in Nevada, which is not bad because it means I could live in my own home. On the other hand the African adventure is also appealing. I am waiting.
Thank you for taking such time to care.
Have a full and creative day!
Love this.
I am so fascinated by your paintings - and with the poem, they deepen and stir. Really worthy work - I hope you are illustrating your own books!

Ahhhhh
Lovely thoughts, Harrison, thanks. Illustrating my own books has of course more than crossed my mind, even producing short animated films of a few short stories, not those dreadful formulaic things made by free programs, but liltingly moving the paintings frame by frame to create movement. I’m in the process of doing this with Ginkgo For Remembrance, but it’s a rather futile task since I can’t even get the story published, much less anything more complicated! The publishing market for illustrated work, unless of the comic book variety or children’s books, is almost non-existent. Mx
Love it...
the poem and the paintings. I recognized the painting style; it is reminiscent of your 9/11 video paintings.
thanks for sharing it...nan
A softer subject than and
A softer subject than and different motivation from the 9/11 work, but yes, Nan, the same hand, the same line. Actually, these glimpses of the sky are parts of my huge door installation. It’s so easy the use jpegs once you have them! I remember the days of Ectachrome slides!
Thanks as always for the support ~Mara
Powerful to see and hear
Powerful to see and hear your poem that I loved the first time I read it, Mara. You are truly an inspiration!
Keep at it, Mara. Your time will come and a publisher will surely realize they need you--to share your gift. Until then, I am honored to be one of the many...
Timing
You don’t know how much I appreciated your thoughtful (as always!) comments this morning, Rebb. I had just gotten a rejection for a rather inconsequential poem, and the next email was your kind encouragement.
My day is certainly brighter now! ~Mara
Mara - what a beautiful
Mara - what a beautiful piece of work and, I believe so apt for Red Room. I suggest it be used as a type of ''signature'', a welcome of sorts to writers across the globe, to inspire, unite and in turn grow. Your talent is unbeatable. mx
Inspiration
What a generous suggestion, Mary. That would be honor upon honor! I would love to be considered a welcoming voice, but my words are only a reflection inspired by you, Sharon and all the others. Mx

This is one of the most powerful images in this inspiring piece. It instantly brings to my heart all the souls I love most dearly who have passed on, the fabulous books I carry in my memory, and dearest friends. Thank you. Aloha, PAM CHUN
Embraced
Pam, I am very pleased that this short work seems to have resonated personally with you. I am touched by your lovely comments. Thanks so much. Mara
Mara, I regret to say
that I've only just discovered this wonderful polished gem, enhanced by your inspiring images. Some powerful thoughts in there for the reader to reflect upon, laced together with a sure yet delicate focus.
The sentiments might just as well apply to the Red Room. Who says that cyber has to be virtual. It isn't, not in the sense of approximation. It hits the spot.
You are well-gifted.
Thanks so much for sharing,
Rosy
Sleuth-saying
Rosy, you are correct! This video and the poem itself were inspired by one period of a few magical days last spring when several of us connected on Red Room during a difficult time. Although I am only a member as opposed to an author, Huntington and Red Room decided to post it with the featured videos anyway, which pleases me and those others involved as well.
The pastels are from my bottomless ‘ouevre.’
I really don’t deserve such praise, since sometimes work does indeed create itself.
Thanks. Mara
mmmm
you got me motivated and inspered
Thanks so much for your kind
Thanks so much for your kind words. It’s truly wonderful how we are all connected through cyberspace.
