Yesterday, I had the greatest pleasure of being the Professor of Honor (we call it Patroness or Paraninfa in Brazil) at the UPF Languages Department commencement ceremony. Traditionally, the Professor of Honor is chosen by the students, based on how much that teacher contributed and influenced their academic life.
Some students did not want to participate in the ceremony, but have called me or written saying that I was their Professor of Honor anyway. I love them all.
Honestly, I was really surprised when they invited me. I have a good relationship with the students, I enjoy their company, but I´m also the one who demands a lot in terms of quality of their work. If I feel they can give more, I don´t accept less. Also, I don´t get involved in power disputes within the campus, so I´m not worth the adulation.
But with this group it was different. I´m really proud of them.
You can see me in a Professor´s academic robe in the photo. I had to take allergy pills beacuse of those plumes, or whatever they´re called, in my hat. But it was well worth it!
