Anger. Jealousy. Disgust. Just three of the emotions reeking havoc in my soul right now.
"Jersey Shore" personality Snooki has just released the book "A Shore Thing". Wait -- it's not just a book, IT'S A NOVEL. Yes, I'm sure Snooki sat down at her computer and outlined her story, put thought into character development, and wrote then rewrote her story.
I understand that publishing is a business, not a charity, and that if this girl has a following, some publisher would be crazy not to jump on the bandwagon to cash in. This knowledge does not keep me from being physically ill.
In my lifetime, my novel will never be as successful as Snooki's will be probably within weeks. And I'm one of the lucky ones! At least my book was published. When I think of all the writers whose novel is sitting in a draw because no one will consider it because "It's not right for our list," I could cry.
I think that pretty much covers the jealous and disgusted part. Now let's get to the anger. Those of us who take our craft seriously could be offended by those who pass themselves off a writers. No wonder when we introduce ourselves to people as writers, some roll their eyes or act less than impressed. I mean, anybody can do it, right? Just ask Snooki.
