Well, here I go again.
I wrote my second novel. I thought I'd learned all the tricks of trade with the first one. I sent out the manuscript and no one wanted it. I put it aside because I needed distance.
A couple of months ago I contacted a ghost editor who reviews your first chapter for free. She said a mouthful. In fact, her critique showed me, not only what needed to be fixed in the first chapter, but the entire book.
When my head stopped spinning, I sat down and marked it up as Draft 2. I suspect there will be a few more before I send my "baby" back out into the world.
I can already see though, it will be better for the changes. I'm a little embarrassed that I was so sure it was ready last year.
Believe it or not, I am invigorated being back at "square one." Actually, it's square two, but whose counting.
