Lorna Jane Cook was born in northern California, grew up in Michigan, and has lived in Greece; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C. She earned a B.A. in Psychology/Sociology, and worked in a runaway shelter, a group home for teenage girls, an emergency services agency, and on Capital Hill as a legislative assistant —before returning to writing, her first love. She lives and writes in Holland, Michigan with her husband and two sons, who are on the verge of growing up and moving out.
