Recently I've been obsessed with uploading all the book reviews I wrote for Morbid Curiosity over the years. Working for the magazine exposed me to some amazing books on a variety of dark subjects. I miss getting books in the mail, but I don't really miss the pressure to read them on a deadline. Now I can linger over books. Sometimes I linger too long. Anyway, it's been fun to enjoy those old books again.
I've also been playing a lot with WordPress, getting the Cemetery Travel blog up and running. This Wednesday will see my 10th Cemetery of the Week, so I plan to do something really special. The learning curve for setting up the new blog has been steeper than I would like (part of that is that the template I've chosen for my blog doesn't allow me to do everything I want), but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Now I need to figure out how to increase my readership there.
I'm also nearing the end of revising my novel, The Dangerous Type. So far I've added two chapters and nearly 10,000 words since I started the revision in February. I've loved taking the book apart and putting it back together -- and the initial reading has been very encouraging -- but at this point, I am ready to be done with it. I want to hand it off to my agent and take a break for a while.
Next week is my daughter's spring break, so we are going to visit Mamaw and Papa. I'm looking forward to not doing any more writing than getting my diary up to date. Or maybe writing a book review or two. Also, keeping up with the Cemetery of the Week. In fact, I'd like to visit a new cemetery. Bake muffins. Put some photos in an album. Relax.
Because once I'm back to work on the 18th, it's time to get cranking on the Bay Area Cemeteries book. I need to put together a list of places to visit, upcoming cemetery tours, and look over all the notes I made during Nanowrimo (or Nonficwrimo) last year. Summer vacation is coming up fast and I have a lot of work to do before it hits. I'd like to get as close as possible to a finished first draft before the second week of June.
