One of the best things about publishing the magazine was having people come up and tell me their experiences. Every now and then, someone had had something happen to them that was so immense, so unbelievable, that they had been looking all their lives for a way to share the tale.
Bill Selby's story was like that. Jill Tracy told me about it before she introduced us at the first SpookyCon. Bill and I sat at a little cafe table in a dim, empty bar in the Chinatown Holiday Inn. He leaned forward and told me about nearly dying in a car accident. And then being buried in rotting animals that had been scraped up off the side of the roads by a demon trucker. He told me how pivotal the experience had been in his life.
There was never any question that I would include his story in Morbid Curiosity Cures the Blues. He read it at the Hypnodrome last October, complete with lights and sound effects. Enjoy! It will definitely make you glad to be alive.
