where the writers are
Literary Journal Editor: One Little Fish In A Giant Sea
Caper Literary Journal

For work, I am an editorial assistant at Routledge books in New York. Where there is a certain lack of creativity here, as I work on  academic texts, I moonlight as founding editor of Caper Literary Journal, an electronic salon of poetry and prose. I founded this for a few reasons: inspire people to write, publish worthy poetry and create niche in a wild literary world. I like to read work that is well done and cannot be duplicated. And while it certainly is difficult rejecting writers, the writers who are chosen stand out. I like the feeling, and I know they do too. Editing Caper is as inspiring as it is educational. The amount of work out there is astounding. The amount of contests, content sites, self-published work and small-press chapbook awards are overwhelming, almost to the point where one considers flow much greater than demand. . . and almost everyone is “award winning.” But you know what? It’s good. Music once was DIY and people could start from scratch, work on an indie music label and then get picked up. Those days are almost obliterated. The literary world is right there though – with so many outlets, and Caper being one, people have a chance to say something, do something and  create their own little stardusted trail through writing history. Working as an editor lets me see these stars shine, and it inspires me to kick myself even harder. Thanks all,Lisa Marie Basile
