When are you a writer? Is it when you become published? Or are you writer since the day you began writing your not published work? I have had these questions for a long time... It took me a while to give myself an answer, and this is what I've thought:
Some writers may have a natural talent, they write the same way they breathe and talk. These are writers since a pen touches their fingers. They are never an aspiring writer. They are the art without the need of an accomplishment.
It is like a true poet, he or she does not need to write a poem to be a poet. It is about the way they understand life, and feel it everyday. The way he can observe something common inside his world, and change it into an extraordinary experience.
It is like:
Falling leaves; To some it may just be an object falling, but to a poet it could be the ritual of death as he understands the mysterious act of regeneration.
A cold glass of water; To some it may only be something needed when thirsty, but to the poet it could be the consequence of love when those who act in power realize it is warmer to be softer and kinder to those who don't believe in their words of manipulation.
Deep Ocean; To some it may be a place where fishes live, and is great to spend time, but to the poet it could be the door to infinity, and the place where the tears of the thirsty of justice end.
If the poet is not published, it does not mean he isn't one. It just means he may have not had the opportunity to do so. And therefore, as a writer it is something similar. Effort creates a tangible result, but talent gives it the spicy flavor.
It is really important, if you are an natural talent writer to understand your own nature or you may end up disappointed of yourself before you even get to acknowledge you are a natural writer.
Because sometimes talent comes with a very high cost, the unawareness of that talent. However, some may say... Perhaps, that means you are not really talented, and you are just fooling yourself. Well, the difference between being or not talented comes with your inner voice. You may ignore it, but it does say the truth. Does it?
Sometimes talent needs a lot more effort, than those who are not talented because those who don't have talent have to work a lot more than someone who does have it. Those who are not talented work too much to do something that gives a good value to others, and those who feel have talent may feel big efforts are not needed. They have it all.
But at the end, as time passes by, effort does pay its result... Natural Writer or not... Talented or not...
You are a writer, just by devoting completely to your dream and giving the extra mile.
