Friend
The cold silence
suddenly began to thaw
into steaming clouds
of laughter,
a face in the crowd
like a gold wrapped gift
bearing my name,
pealed open the plain brown
parceled air,
with rainbow stripe ribbons.
Was it in another lifetime
that you first wrapped me
in a party of colors,
like a Sunday Best shirt
I though I had lost,
steeped in the fresh...

Mystery
In a backyard pond
always taken to be
sandy and shallow,
one day discovering
a sunken pearl garden
of coral castles
and emerald-fin undines,
living in the rare filtered light
under the lichen
skin.
Questions,
like bubbles rising to the surface
pop and sparkle in amazement
at finding themselves exposed
to the light of day,
as tiny phosphorus...
