Boy! Where did that time go? Couple of days ago I came across three men talking about me. They didn’t know I was listening. I know I shouldn’t have stayed but who can blame me, I was curious and had to see where the conversation would lead to.
“Do you think he would ever understand who we are?” I heard Saturday say.
“He was with me before and did pretty good, so there is hope.” I heard Friday respond.
“Speak for yourself, for he still has to pass through my window before I can comment.” Sunday interceded.
I almost screamed at myself. I needed someone to tell me that I was mad and that I was hallucinating but all I could hear was this conversation between the windows of my existence.
“If he knew what happened in my time then he should know what happens in yours. Take it from me he listens.” Friday said again.
“I am not talking about whether or not he did well in your zone of things, what I am saying is do you think he understands the bigger picture?” I heard Saturday say.
What bigger picture? I almost shouted out loud. Who were these strangers within me and what did they want?
“I think he has been with us for a while now so he should get it.” I heard Friday say.
In a similar fashion by which these thoughts had started so did they disappear and I was left wondering whether this possibility was conceivable. It coincided with my present state of mind so there was the possibility that it could have stronger bearings to my existence than I could fully understand.
“Big ideas for a man who dreams of other places; visions of places and times that only dreams are made of; once more you have let your imagination get the better of you.” I heard myself mutter quietly under my breath. I had known I was a dreamer from time but to think this way was madness.
There are two schools of thoughts to observe here. If I talk about the days as though they pass before me then I place myself above the existence of the world and proclaim master of my own destiny. If the days discuss my existence and my passage through time then I am merely a symbol of a period. The first school of thought is about the self, nothing matters but how everything else around it affects it. The second is about the universe. In this school of thought what is of importance is the role we have to play in life. Now seriously, how was your weekend?
