I switched on the lights in the landing and the bedroom light came on. I turned them off and walked into the bedroom to verify what was happening, I then switched on the bedroom light and the lights in the landing came on.
‘Nothing made sense!’ ‘Why was this happening to me?’ I pondered.
‘Was I hallucinating? Or better still had someone propped laudanum into my drink; who could tell the difference these days?’
This was no charlatan figment of my imagination, this was real and I was in it wondering how I got there in the first place. I was frozen in a spot of uncertainty, I had to get out and I had to wake up from whatever state of shock I was in. I decided to confirm the familiarity of my surroundings in order to make sure of where I was. My situation was indubitable. I hadn’t gone out of the apartment and that for one was a certainty. What would be the deciding factor here would be to peer through the windows and see the usual daylight filter through the long Victorian glasses, this would be all the reassurance required to confirm my sanity. I walked slowly to the front room and drew the blinds aside. The brightness of the sun through the windows was almost dazzling and I felt my eyes blink in response to its radiance. Subconsciously I threw my head back in one swift motion and to my amazement instead of simply adjusting my position to compensate for whatever discomfort I may have been feeling I smashed my head through the bay windows. The expected splinter of glass and shattering of bones never came as I had anticipated, instead in a moment of utter awe I saw myself pass through the glass and set out into the skies at tremendous speed. . I flew like a bird at an incredible velocity high into the skies and watched the brilliance of the meadows beneath me. Where I was headed for was as much a mystery to me as how I had gotten to fly in the first place. I realized how fast I was going when I noticed that the surface of the land beneath me began to blur and the wind rushed at me at gusts that could shake the rooftop off a building. Eventually I noticed that I had slowed down and was now coasting gently over a few people. They stared at me wide eyed and in wonder as I flew over them. Soon I was gliding slowly through some trees and then came to rest in what looked like the rear end for a row of houses. The territory was unfamiliar and I was pretty sure that I hadn’t been there before. By now I was aware of my predicament before and knew that I had been in the spirit all along. I waited patiently in the shadow of the trees for whatever envoy was demanded of my spirit gratified that once again I had been chosen to witness this rarity. There was no feeling in my feet as I watched for any signs of life and listened to the clangor in my environment. The calmness of my new being was spellbinding and all I could do was observe my surroundings with whatever courage I could muster.
It was hard to tell whether I was in a rich or poor neighborhood. I couldn’t even place the country and it felt like staring through a hazy glass with very poor lighting. In a way it made sense if I was not using my own eyes but the eyes of another. It was clear that my spirit was in control of whatever I was doing and not vice versa. I did not have to wait for long for suddenly the door to the back of the house opened and a young child whom I could hardly make out burst out through the back entrance and ran towards me with what looked like a book or an object of similar nature in their hand. The child seemed to expect me to be there and did not have the look of shock in their eyes. The child seemed to recognize who I was and ran blindly towards me and hit me with the object they carried. At this point I felt a heat wave wash through my veins and I snapped out of the spiritual world to realize that I was lying in bed and sweating profusely.
