Leigh Eckrich's Biography

Member Info

Brookings, SD
Not married yet... but I have been dating my boyfriend for almost 2 years.
Nov 2008

I am a sophomore at SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota. I am currently studying Biology- premed as well as spanish. I've always found writing to be a fantastic escape from reality- a place to create my own reality. I am currently working on my first novel, The Language of Secrets- I am attempting to finish it by November 30th along with thousands of other people around the world. As of now, I'm a couple days ahead on word count- so hopefully that is a good sign. Blue ID

Influences

I have been most influenced by books that I read in my childhood that dealt with fantasy and absurd mystery. Narnia is a first example, however, many other books (too many and too long ago to recall) have also molded and formed the way that I write. However- more than books themselves, I am influenced by my own life, the world around me and the way that I see it. Often, when I am writing poetry, it is a self-story, a cathartic release upon the paper. When writing, I often create worlds that have a fantastic element to them, unreal. However, I also like to include mystery- an element where you have to fit the pieces together to understand the whole. This probably stems from the fact that, (surprisingly), I am more logically fueled (versus creatively).

Upcoming Works

"The language of secrets"

Synopsis:
After witnessing an incredible celestial event, a young girl investigates and discovers what she comes to call "her truth stone." Upon holding the stone, an entire world of truth is opened to her, and she begins to discover things she never wanted nor intended to learn. However, the stone did not fall for naught, and she soon discovers the stone has a purpose, she is the savior in a story she never knew existed.

Excerpt:
"I met a girl once, whose face knew more about me and about the world than any scholar or book could ever imagine. In every world-weary line was a story, a history, of the loves she’d seen, the horrors she’d witnessed, and the other sorts of things this world can hardly imagine. Though she was young, her visage championed a wizened beauty few of age could even compare, and her eyes, once bright like the other children, now shone with a clouded gaze filled with darkness, fate, and loss. This is her story."
