When we hold a book in our hands, we do not hold history, or a story, or opinion; we hold the one device that makes us that magical child again, when all things were good and wonderful. We were safe from the world once, no economic boogeyman hitting us time and time again, draining what joy we had hidden from the world. The moment we open a book, we become children again, amazed as we enter that parallel universe created by the author.
I read voraciously because I like being a child. I close the book when I'm ready to face the monsters again.
