Moments of a Writer's life, #81

The Moment I Missed Bill Clinton: Bill Clinton was giving the keynote speech at that year’s BEA but, figuring there was no way I’d get in to see him, I accepted an invitation to have drinks and Mexican food with some reviewers who also figured there’d be no chance to see him; at the very least, it would be a mob scene. Later on we learned that since lots of people figured the same hopeless thing we had figured, we actually could have probably got good seats in the room no problem. Oh, well. I’d seen him speak before in Danbury in the fall of 2000 and a few years prior to that, I’d seen the back of his head and Sam Donaldson’s whole head in Westport. No need for a girl to get greedy. And, you know, that taco was good.
