This panel featured authors who have written about death, grief and loss. As a result, it is more serious than my usual panels at Book Group Expo. In fact, unless you are in a solemn mood, you may want to skip through the first few minutes until we get to the audience Q&A.
Julia Glass's novel is called I See You Everywhere, Ann Packer's novel is called Now That You're Gone, and Dr. Irv Yalom's nonfiction exploration of our fear of death is called Staring at the Sun. The best quote of the panel came from Ann Packer in response to the question,
"Is writing therapeutic?"
"No," she responds. "Writing is writing....and therapy is therapy."
