Favorite Books

For a great young heroine and a lovely romance, The Perilous Gard (Elizabeth Pope); for sheer hutspah, Startide Rising (David Brin); for complex characters and A LOT of them, Song of Fire and Ice series (George RR Martin); for language and wit, Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen); for pure devestation, Living Dead Girl (Elizabeth Scott); for deadpan humor, Slaugherhouse Five (Kurt Vonnegut); for aching sadness, Father of Frankenstein (Christopher Bram); for pure narrative drive, Watchers (Dean Koontz); for the book that I read as a teenager that I will never forget, The Master and Margarita (Mikhail Bulgakov); and for my moral, ethical and philosophical (not religious) compass, The Screwtape Letters (C.S. Lewis--especially when read outloud by John Cleese of Monty Python)
